The policy covers the insured against loss or damage to internal and external glass (including mirrors), sign writing, and any treatment applied to the glass at the insured’s premises. It applies to glass that is either the property of the insured or for which they are responsible.
Who can take the policy?
Any individual or business that installs plate glass of substantial value can take out this policy.
What is covered?
The insurance company will cover the cost of:
- Repair or replacement of insured glass or other affected property.
- Resultant damage to:
- Frames containing the insured glass.
- Window displays, including fixtures and fittings.
- Temporary boarding or other protection measures for the premises pending glass replacement.
Exclusions
The policy covers accidental breakage of insured glass except in the following cases:
- Fire or explosion.
- Earthquakes or other natural convulsions.
- Damage to frames.
- Cost of removal or replacement of any fittings or fixtures required for replacing the broken glass.
- Cracked or imperfect glass.
- Superficial damage or scratching.

How to Claim
In the event of an incident giving rise to a claim under the policy, the following steps should be followed:
- Immediately notify the insurance company by phone, email, fax or in writing.
- Take photographs of the damaged glass.
- Submit a Claim Form duly filled in to the insurance company.
- Proceed to carry out repair or replacement of the damaged glass.
- Take any other practicable steps to discover and identify the name, address and telephone number of the person who caused the loss/damage (if necessary report to the police) and to take action to seek recovery from the party concerned.
